Professional video production is something relatively new to most people.
It’s not like hiring a professional web designer. We’ve all hired one or two before and are probably familiar with that process. Sometimes I meet a prospecting client who knows they need and want video, but they have no idea where to start. They don’t know the process, the timing, and have no clue about the investment. And, they don’t know where to start.
So here are a few tips to help you get moving in the right direction:
The very first thing you want to do is to look at a company’s portfolio. Most professional video production companies have sample work displayed on their website. See if you like them. Is it high quality? Do these videos engage you and have emotion? Or do they feel flat and dull?
If you like what you see, look for client reviews on google and on the company’s social media platforms. It’s always enlightening to hear other people’s client’s perspectives.
Look for a company’s Youtube or Vimeo pages and see their latest work. Pay attention to the publishing dates so you can see how recent their work is. You don’t want to hire a part timer who does work once or twice a year or has done their last project 18 months ago.
Once you engage with a video production company, ask questions related to their creative process, timing, and budget. As a creative director, I’m always happy when clients share inspirational videos so I can get a better sense of what what they’re looking for.
